Good morning (This is Dave Kerby). School superintendent in BGH4
Yesterday Governor Mark Gordon announced a balanced approach to re-opening the state over time. Some restrictions are being phased out. He further announced the decision about whether to extend closures would now lie with individual school districts working in conjunction with their County Public Health Officer.
After the governor’s announcement, I met with other school superintendents in Big Horn County and our Big Horn County Health Officer, Dr. Fairbanks. Schools in Big Horn County will remain closed. Our Riverside and Laura Elementary Schools will continue providing educational services (as we have for the past month) through May 22 which is the end of our current school calendar.
Our principals are working with committees to plan end of year activities including graduation.
I will begin working with our administrators and board to develop a plan for re-opening schools next fall, and possibly for a late summer school.
Parents, please continue to work with your students in helping make sure they are staying engaged with their educational activities.
Students, please commit to finishing the school year in a strong manner by continuing to attend and participate in your classes.
Staff, please plan on finishing the school year under our current delivery model.
Everyone, I encourage you to stay strong. We live in a great community that is supportive to all. Please reach out to me, building principals or any district staff or school board if you have needs that we can help with. Thank you and stay safe.
