...Higher Water Levels to continue this Week... Snow in the far western Wyoming mountains between the 8,000 and 10,000 foot elevation will continue to melt during the coming week. Monday will remain quite warm before temperatures cool slightly through the week. However, even these cooler readings will be above normal for early June. East of the Continental Divide, the remaining snow is mainly confined to elevations above 9,000 feet. Much above normal temperatures will continue Monday east of the Divide and an active snowmelt will continue all week. Conditions will be mostly dry Monday with only isolated showers and thunderstorms expected. The far northern mountains have a better chance of rain showers Tuesday afternoon and evening. The showers and thunderstorms will become more widespread from Thursday afternoon into next weekend. The greatest concern for minor flooding remains across western Wyoming where the best snowpack persists. The river stages at both Pacific Creek near Moran and the Gros Ventre River at Kelly will generally remain bankfull. The Green River at La Barge is forecast to climb to near action stage of 8.0 feet by Wednesday. Other areas of concern include the upper Wind River from Dubois to Kinnear. The river will be around flood stage around Dubois while near bankfull downstream through Kinnear through midweek. Creeks and streams along the west slope of the Bighorn Range, including Tensleep Creek, Medicine Lodge Creek, and Paintrock Creek may run bankfull at times through Monday. Rainfall Saturday evening caused water levels to rise on these foothill creeks. Remember, during active snowmelt runoff, mountain and foothill creeks flow highest from late evening through early morning. Recreationists should stay away from these cold, fast-moving streams and avoid camping near any waterway. Do not attempt to cross a creek or stream on foot as the power of the water will easily carry you downstream.
